Cape Manzamo is a renowned dive spot in Onna Village in Okinawa. The ‘Dream Hole’ entrance, in particular, is covered in hard coral, descending vertically to a depth of about 25 meters, with a sandy bottom inside the cave. Inside the cave, you can spot marine life such as lobsters, crabs, and golden trevallies. As you swim out of the cave, you’ll encounter a large school of yellowfin goatfish near the entrance, with the backlighting effect making you feel like you’re in a blue hole
Cape Manzamo is a famous marine tourist attraction located in Onna Village on the main island of Okinawa. While its diving spots may not be as famous as those in Kerama, it’s still a great choice for divers who want to experience excellent diving without worrying about seasickness. The diving spots at Manzamo are just a 10-minute boat ride from the port, and after each dive, you return to the port for a break. This is good news for those who are sensitive to seasickness.
One of the most popular diving spots at Manzamo is the “DREAM HOLE.” It’s a vertical L-shaped cave with a coral-covered entrance that descends to a depth of approximately 25 meters, with a sandy bottom. Inside the cave, you can spot marine life like lobsters, crabs, and golden trevally. As you swim out of the cave, you’ll encounter a large school of bigeye jacks swimming near the cave entrance. The backlighting effect creates a feeling as if you’re in a blue hole.
Another unique diving spot at Manzamo is “NAKAYUKUI,” which translates to “take a break” in the Okinawan language. This diving spot is located in a bay, closer to the shore, making it relatively calm even when other Manzamo spots have strong currents. It features a sandy bottom, and you might encounter resting sea turtles here from time to time. Moreover, NAKAYUKUI is rich in macro marine life, including various nudibranchs and juvenile fish, providing divers with plenty of surprises.

USS Emmons
Due to the considerable depth and strong currents, this activity is exclusively suitable for experienced divers. The shipwreck is situated at a water depth ranging from 35m to 45m. Only divers aged 18 or above, with an AOW (Advanced Open Water) certification of level 50 or higher, are eligible to participate. A prerequisite check dive is mandatory prior to joining this dive.
Situated off Furuuli Island in northern Okinawa, the USS Emmons is an extraordinary relic of history. This colossal ship, once in service with the U.S. Army during World War II, bore witness to the intense U.S.-Japan Battle of Okinawa. It endured a fierce attack by Japanese warplanes, resulting in nearly 100 casualties. To safeguard military secrets from falling into enemy hands, the U.S. military made the difficult decision to scuttle the vessel.
It wasn’t until the year 2000 that a local fishing boat serendipitously stumbled upon an unusual oil leak on the seabed, eventually unveiling the 106-meter long wreckage known as the USS Emmons. This discovery transformed it into Japan’s largest shipwreck dive site.
Today, the USS Emmons stands as a poignant testament to history, with its hull, gun decks, and torpedoes remarkably preserved over six decades. These relics offer divers an awe-inspiring opportunity to explore the enduring traces of war and reflect on its significance.
The USS Emmons dive site is not only a site of captivating mystery but also a poignant reminder of the consequences of war. It beckons divers from across the globe to witness its grandeur and contemplate the lessons of history.

Sunabe
“Exploring the Underwater Mailbox, Underwater UFO, and Temple“
Sunabe is situated in Chatan, about a 30-minute drive from Naha City, and it’s also home to the must-visit ‘American Village’ during your Okinawa trip. Here, you’ll find three main dive sites: Sunabe No.1, Sunabe No.2 (Miigusuku Coast), and in front of the Water Purification Plant.
Sunabe No.1This is an excellent spot for beginners to gain experience, featuring a superb entry point that is ideal for novice or uncertified divers. The entry point provides good support, with chains for divers to hold onto when descending or ascending. At the end of the chain, you’ll discover a small fault line, with a sandy bottom at a depth of approximately 6-8 meters. In the center of this sandy area, you’ll even find a decommissioned underwater mailbox, adding an element of intrigue and fun.
Sunabe No.2 This is another popular dive spot. Although there are more rocks at the entry point, which can be less friendly for divers during low tide, once you swim further into the channel, you’ll discover deeper and more extensive soft coral formations, resembling underwater coral valleys that are truly enchanting.
Purification Plant Descending the stairs at the front of Chatan Water Purification Plant and swimming approximately 150 meters out, you’ll encounter a birdcage-like steel reef at a depth of 8-10 meters and a tower resembling a fortress. Locally, these two spots are often referred to as ‘Drainage Outlet UFO’ and ‘Entrance Temple.’ Due to the continued operation of the water purification facility, visibility here is slightly lower than at other dive sites, but it also creates a unique ecological landscape.
